A squad of 46 players from West Herts Wizards Pickleball Club, had fantastic success at the English Open Pickleball Championship at Telford.

The event was held over August 8-14th and attracted 1,976 entrants from 43 countries, showing the popularity of pickleball and how much it has grown, even in the last 12 months, with double the numbers entered this year compared to 2023. It truly is the fastest growing sport in the UK, and around the world.

The Wizards came away with 19 medals – 5 Gold, 7 Silver and 7 Bronze which was an amazing haul. Probably the biggest number from any club in the country and a massive increase from the 8 gained at last year’s Open. There were so many wonderful performances and medals in so many categories, from 3.0 to senior Pro showing the strength and depth of the club.

Club highlights include Wendy Randall gaining a bronze in the +55 Pro Open singles, playing against top players from the US and Europe on the show court, that was live streamed on YouTube. Several players gained two medals including Wendy, Moira Batterby, Andrew Tallyn, Tim Gill, Keith Pollard and Lyn Epps won three medals.
